Adult Faith Formation Meeting Time: Last Tuesday of the month at 9:30 am in the St. Mary Hospitality Room

Adult Faith Formation 2012 – 2013 Newsletter

Adult Faith Formation is an invitation to planning, implementing, and advertising programs to help adults 18 and over explore and learn more about their Catholic Faith. This program includes:

Bible Study: People who are interested in participating in a small group Bible Study The Seat of Wisdom Diocesan Institute is a program of Adult Faith Formation and Catechetical Certification in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Madison, Wisconsin.

Adult Retreat: People who are interested in spiritual enrichment in small groups.

One Time Events: Volunteers are needed to help plan periodic events, eg. Parish Mission.

The Institute offers a comprehensive and systematic formation based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It aims to put adult participants “not only in touch but in communion, in intimacy, with Jesus Christ” (John Paul II, CT) thereby strengthening them to be more effective witnesses and teachers of the Gospel.

Platteville Catholic Community Adult Faith Formation (PCCAFF)

Adult Faith Formation is an invitation to ongoing conversion to Jesus through education, reflection, and enrichment opportunities that promote and support Christian life and community. Our prayer is that we will be touched and transformed by the life giving message of Jesus Christ.

Vision: The vision of Adult Faith Formation is to see parishioners growing in an ongoing personal relationship with God and carrying that message out into their communities.

This small, but dynamic committee meets monthly the last Tuesday at 9:30 AM in the St. Mary Hospitality Room.

RCIA

In 1929 Gabriel Marcel walked into Notre Dame in Paris, France. The splendor of the stain glass the intricacy of the decor, the sheer mass of the stone pillars rising to the sky moved his heart and his mind. His quest for truth. the trademark of his writing as an atheist was at an end: he was home. Months later, after his formation in the faith he was welcomed into the Catholic Church.

Not all conversions are as unlikely or as remarkable as Gabriel Marcel’s but they happen all the time. God wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth (1 Tim 2:4) and His voice is readily available for anyone with an open heart. All of us, at one time or another were probably far from the faith and had a conversion experience. When this happens and we are an unbaptized adult or an adult who is baptized but hasn’t received First Communion, Confirmation or both, he enters the RCIA program:(Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) designed to form candidates in the Catholic Faith.

This program includes not only theological formation but also formation in the practice of the faith, morals, liturgy and prayer. Some type of retreat is required with the objective of permitting the candidate to have full knowledge of what he is entering. This often times happens in college when young people are making decisions that will inform much of how the rest of their lives will be. Right now at St. Augustine University parish there are three candidates that will be baptized in the Easter Vigil. They attend classes on campus on Tuesdays with Fr. John.

It is important to remember that being apostles is part of all of our vocation. St. Peter told us to always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you (1 Pe 3:15). It would be wise to make a resolution with the New Year to be more active in our outreach, to bring all peoples we come into contact with, closer to Christ. We have so much to offer to those who like Gabriel Marce are searching for the truth. Maybe Jesus wants to work through us to reach someone who is lost. Will we respond? Always keep an open eye and a willingness to speak of the faith. We could change someone’s life forever.
